Due to quantitative and qualitative imbalances in the labor market in many industries qualified young professionals are missing, while the in-house workforce is getting older continuously.Demographic change and the resulting consequences for companies are often underestimated or ignored. Companies should have taken precautions much earlier.Strong action is required now. But how can companies overcome the "demographic gap"?The aim of this paper is to analyze demographic changes and their impacts on the labor markets. Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Geowissenschaften / Geographie - Wirtschaftsgeographie, Note: 1,0, Europa-Universität Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Diese Hausarbeit basiert auf den Vorarbeiten, die im Rahmen des Forschungsseminars 'Empirische Methoden der Stadt- und Regionalforschung' im Sommersemester 2007 von den Seminarteilnehmern gemeinsam getätigt wurden. Unser Hauptinteresse war die Messung und kartografische Darstellung von regionalen Disparitäten innerhalb der Europäischen Union in Bezug auf den Strukturwandel zu einer wissensbasierten Wirtschaft. Unser vorrangiges Erkenntnisinteresse war es, Aufsteigerregionen der Wissensökonomie zu identifizieren und ihre Struktur zu analysieren. Dazu verwendeten wir die öffentlich zugänglichen Regionaldaten des Statistischen Amtes der Europäischen Gemeinschaft Eurostat. Wir entwickelten Indikatoren zur Messung des Grades der Wissensintensität der regionalen Wirtschaftsstrukturen und stellten sie anschliessend mit dem Kartografie-Programm Arc View GIS 3.3 von ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute) dar. Die Auswahl der Indikatoren sowie die ihre Aufbereitung für die kartografische Darstellung erfolgten im Seminar. Die grafische Abbildung und die Interpretation der Ergebnisse entstanden anschliessend selbstständig.
